About the lecture:
A Visit to Paradise – Antarctica
Antarctica is the last great region on Earth to remain virtually untouched by humans. The presentation takes us on a journey to Arctowski Station, then to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and finally to the Antarctic Peninsula. It features descriptions of animals, along with their sounds, photographs of animals and landscapes, as well as images of daily life in the far south. All of this is accompanied by appropriate music.
The Earth’s polar regions as our planet’s air conditioning
The polar regions are among the fastest-changing parts of our planet; it is there that climate change is occurring at the greatest pace. We will discuss the role of these regions not only in the context of polar ecosystems, but also how they affect life in other latitudes. A common argument from climate sceptics is ‘why should I care about such a distant area?’, but we will see that we very much should care.
About the speaker:

When he is in Poland, he lives in Warsaw, together with quite a large herd of human and non-human animals.
