O warsztacie:
Traditional West African dance with live drum music
African dance with Anika, a movement workshop that will awaken your dormant powers. We’ll get into high gear, stimulate circulation, your heart rate and breathing will accelerate and you’ll feel the surge of endorphins. This is definitely a workshop for those who love movement and rhythm, seek space in the body and want to explore it. African dance is about joy and expression. Many of the steps in this dance were born from imitating the activities of everyday life, or the desire to emphasize the qualities and characteristics of the dancing sex, such as the strength of men, the agility, speed and jumpiness of young girls, the sex appeal and delicacy of young women, or the dignity and elegance of older women. Learning this dance also means learning African folklore and rhythms. The energy and joy of uninhibited movements danced to the beat of trance drum music has made this dance increasingly popular in Europe as well as around the world. For the past dozen years or so, it has been danced not only by indigenous Africans, but also by dancers and choreographers eager to get to the origins of the dance. At this Vibrations there will be a rare opportunity to dance to energetic live drum music performed by top drummers.
About host:
Anika Kaminska – will lead African dance for you. Passionate about music and dance, she has devoted her whole life to these fields and through music and dance she shares positive vibrations with people. Trained as an archaeologist with a specialization in underwater archaeology, she is passionate about travel and traditional cultures. But first and foremost, she is a musician and dancer of traditional dance from West Africa. I specialize in playing ethnic percussion instruments from different parts of the world. Years ago, while learning to play drums, she came across African dance, with which she became fascinated at first sight and has consistently continued her development in this field. She approaches rhythm and dance as an inseparable whole, with a great understanding of the relationship between the two fields, which she conveys and with which she infects her workshops. Her passion for drums and dance is the main motive for the trips she has made to Africa and Cuba. She has learned African dance in Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso from outstanding African ballet masters and from famous dancers living in Europe. Anika is involved in activities promoting West African culture. She is co-organizer of the Around The Rhythm Festival, and conducts workshops at many festivals throughout Poland and abroad. She is a founder and musician in the Moribaya and Madrugada bands, and is the founder of Ankata! – School of World Rhythms.
