Movement Medicine – SHAKE IT
we dance · we regulate · we integrate
In Movement Medicine practice, the body expresses what is alive through dance. In this context, dance is a process that leads us deep within ourselves – first and foremost, but also above all else – this dance leads us to a connection with what is alive and sacred in life.
Shake it refers to the body’s natural ability to regulate itself through shaking and pulsing. When the body is provided with conditions conducive to safety, it can return to its innate intelligence – energy that has been held within the body can be expressed. The wave closes and integrates, and we remain alive, energetic and present.
The body’s vibration supports the process of regulating tension and leads to the restoration of flow. The breath deepens, the body regains its softness.
Every impulse, every emotion and every movement can be accepted and incorporated into the whole of this dance. In this process, the body and the heart learn to stay in contact – this is an expression of our greatest love for life – to remain present and connected.
Rhythm plays a key role in this experience, as it organises and stabilises the nervous system. Mirroring movement, play and simply being together in the group space support the creation of new neural connections. The brain’s neuroplasticity enables the consolidation of the quality of the experience, which strengthens the sense of safety and the vitality of the body.
Shake it is a practice in which we regulate the nervous system and integrate our experience. Through movement, we return to the body; through rhythm, we find stability; and through presence, we build a relationship with ourselves and with others. On this journey, the body becomes our guide, and movement leads us towards greater coherence and life.
This practice supports the safe awakening of life energy and creative potential.
And the rest…
It is a dialogue with the Great Mystery
resilience in the face of the unexpected and courage
strengthening the body,
and becoming more and more ourselves
living with others
we dance for life
Meet the facilitator – Anna Sierpowska
I am fascinated by freedom and the journey each of us takes in seeking to establish embodied contact with the unyielding, vital part of ourselves. I work through the body with awareness, facilitating individual and group processes.
I am a Certified Movement Medicine™ Teacher – a practice of conscious movement and experiencing life. I graduated from the School of Movement Medicine™, co-founded by Ya’Acov and Susanna Darling Khan, and have completed numerous training courses in bodywork:
Lowen Bioenergetics (currently undergoing certification at the Institute of Bioenergetic Analysis in Warsaw)
MA-URI – Polynesian healing arts
Anatomy Trains – fascial techniques
Polyvagal Theory and Mindfulness
* I am a co-founder of BodySpace – a platform for regular workshops on working with awareness through the body, in connection with the heart, nature and the deep wisdom that flows from collaboration and strengthening our connection with one another. I have co-created initiatives and activities supporting body awareness and emotional intelligence within groups and communities: Movement Tribe – a collective of teachers and trainers promoting a culture of the living body; and, in the past, the music and dance collective Freedance, as well as BodyTalks – a radio programme on Radiospacja.
In my practice, I am guided by the intention to discover and strengthen the resilience of life in the daily leap into the unknown, taking a small step towards freedom every day, and cultivating radical acceptance.
